Welcome To Spartan Health Club

Spartan Health Club opened its' doors twenty seven (27) years ago on June 30, 1976, realizing a lifelong dream and years of effort by the proprietor, Mickey Haughton-James who was then a well known fitness enthusiast.  He was joined in the fledging venture by Cindy Breakspeare whose victories in the Miss Jamaica Body Beautiful, Miss Universe Bikini and Miss World Pageant, all in the first six (6) of the Club's operations propelled it to instant national fame.

At the time, the facility was a true reflection of its name, as the equipment available was quite 'Spartan', having only free-weights. The gym, at that time, was located at 8 Lady Musgrave Road, on premises which was rented.  Later, properties at 9 & 10 Lady Musgrave Road were purchased, and the gym was moved in 1987.

Spartan Pays Tribute To
Chris Gayle & Usain Bolt

Compared to its humble beginnings, the development and changes at Spartan have been dramatic.

In its eleven thousand sq. feet of space, the gymnasium now has air-conditioned weight and cardio rooms; state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment; spacious changing rooms; steam rooms for males and females; twelve aerobic instructors and four personal trainers. The reputation of Spartan Health Club as a producer of national and international champion body builders, athletes and beauty queens has become legend.

While the Health Club widely acclaimed for promoting Miss Jamaica World Pageant and for producing world fitness champions, it is also well known among gym enthusiasts to be the largest and best equipped gym facility in Jamaica.
