Spartan Health club,
famous for producing international Body Building champions and as
the promoter of the Miss Jamaica World Pageant, first opened its
doors on June 30, 1976. Located at premises at 8 Lady Musgrave
Road, it was the largest and most modern in the island.
The club subsequently
acquired adjacent property at 9 Lady Musgrave Road and relocated
there in 1987. the club, even larger than before, now features
state of the art facilities and equipment.
Since its inception
virtually all of the club's profits have been ploughed into
improving its facilities and infrastructure. It can be said
without challenge that since the club's inception no six month
period has passed without significant improvement to its facilities.
For the two year
period January 2001 - December 2002 improvements to the Club's
facilities are as follows:

Both the male and
female steam rooms have been redesigned and outfitted with new
shower fixtures and tiles. Modern electrical steam generators
with tough button controls are new features.

New change cubicles
and lockers installed in the change rooms.

Introduction of a
cardio room which features treadmills, Cross-trainers, Steppers, and
exer-cycles. Cardio "Theatre" feature some eight television
screens with audio sets attached to each exercise machine.
Headsets are provided to access the audio from the televisions.
While exercising member are able to watch one of eight T.V channels
or tune in to one of three music channels in much the same way as is
done on most commercial flights on any of the world's airlines.

"Spinning" featuring
the world's leading "spin" bike the le monde has recently been
introduced.

Special matting
designed to protect gym equipment and eliminate noise now completely
covers the floor in the weight room. New exercise machines
have also been added to the area.

The weight room is
now fully air-conditioned.

A security fence with
gates is a feature of the car park.
Improvement plans for
the period January 2003 - December 2004 include the following:

Pro-shop to be
opened.

Club facilities to
include massage room.

Lobby area and front
areas of change rooms to be upgraded and air-conditioned.

Aerobic-room flooring
to be re-conditioned and room repainted.

Old juice bar to be
refurbished to accommodate either a nursery or a meeting room.

Aerobic-room to be
air conditioned.
-
Additional Parking to
be provided in new car park.
